The Lubbock Area Veterans War Memorial is the largest memorial in the United States outside of Washington D.C.   Created for the purpose of honoring the sacrifices for our freedom, the center portion of the memorial commemorates South Plains veterans who were killed in action. The brick and marble monument is dedicated to the veterans of Lubbock and the South Plains area and an adjacent area honors living and deceased members of the U.S. Armed Forces. A final section is for citizens who wish to show their support of veterans and the memorial.  Construction cost  $1.2 million dollars and was dedicated on December 7th, 2003.
